Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 1/2 cups diced onions (about 2-3 onions)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar (optional for caramelizing onions)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 332 ml sour cream or crème fraîche (can swap up to half with mayo) (332mL = 12 oz)
- 225 g cream cheese (225g = 8 oz)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
- soy sauce or worcestershire sauce to taste
Instructions
- Chop onions very small. Add butter to pan on medium heat. Once hot, add onions, salt and (optional) sugar. Cook until caramelized, about 15-30 mins. Don’t let them get overly crispy or browned.
- Set aside to cool.
- In medium bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Add cooled onions.
- Add soy sauce or worcestershire to taste (no more than a tablespoon).
- Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour, best if overnight.
Notes
Definitely best if left overnight for flavors to meld.
